Hello all, We survived the trip here. The kids each got a DS with some games when we got on our flight to NY. They loved that! Abigail played Build-a-Bear game and Ethan played Indiana Jones mostly. We had dinner in NY in the international terminal. Ethan asked if there was a wedding or something going on at the airport when he saw many women in head scarves and burkas boarding a flight to Saudi Arabia. A little Saudi boy tried to entice Abigail into playing a game of Chase and then Ethan. We left NY around 9:30 and the kids could not sleep right away, after all how many times is there a personal tv with games and movies right in front of you. The kids had a few hours of sleep, sprawled across us on the plane. We got in the next day at noon, Rome time. Getting to the apartment was a slight challenge, but we made it. Abigail loves the “booty washer” in the bathroom (the bid et). Our first full day, we went to the Colosseum. The kids have travel belts that we call “spy belts” equipped with a safety whistle, a mini flashlight and a list of emergency info. They searched the Colosseum for clues…of what we don’t know but it kept there attention. They found a black cat and some storage spaces. The gates around the Colosseum lead Abigail to believe we were actually in the cages that the animals and the gladiators were kept in. They also discovered a piece of statue including a very detailed horse butt. Together, they took a booty photo with the horse. The next day we went to the forum and the kids were able to run and climb like crazy. The were determined to find clues to Palpatine Hill (an early tribute to Star Wars) rather than Palatine Hill. It was a great day that ended with pizza and pasta on a patio,we polished off a liter of wine in walking distance of our apartment. They have both been very interested in the history. Today we took a break from history and visited the grand park Villa Borghese.
We don’t have internet access and just stumbled upon some at the park. We will try to keep up more often.
